Diaspora Messenger
The Kenyan diaspora is scattered all over the world, and often found in small towns where there are not many Kenyans. Those who live in big cities mostly organize themselves in support groups, either affiliated with a church or a community organization. Even though they are outside Kenya, these Kenyans have friends and family members back home whom they care about; hence, knowing what is happening in Kenya is very important. Also, each region and location is unique and different and since they are far from each other, communication and connection is very important.
To help facilitate connection and networking, Diaspora Messenger, a community website, was started in 2007 with an aim of being the resource center for Kenyans in the diaspora. People can log in to find out what is happening with other Kenyans, and what is happening back home. Over the years, Diaspora Messenger has become a community center connecting Kenyans abroad with their relatives and friends back home, and creating connections and network for those in the diaspora.
Those who seem to benefit more from Diaspora Messenger are new arrivals who rely on the website to find out what is happening with Kenyans in other locations, and to discover which areas have the best environment and opportunities.
